2015 marks Speedworks Motorsport’s fifth year competing in the British Touring Car Championship. Five years competing at the top level of British motorsport also means five visits to the team’s home circuit of Oulton Park.
With the series annual visit to the North West just around the corner, there is no better time to look back at the team’s previous home appearances.
2011 saw the debut of the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) regulations in the BTCC and Speedworks Motorsport were the first team in the series’ history to run a car to the new set of regulations.
With local driver Tony Hughes behind the wheel, the team’s first visit to Oulton Park as a BTCC team was a special one. Despite the dismal weather conditions, the event was made all the better with Hughes and the team scoring their best result of the season in the second race of the weekend.
Looking back at the team’s first visit to Oulton Park as a BTCC team, Team Principal Christian Dick said:
“I think the biggest thing I remember about that weekend was a huge sense of pride. We had obviously been on the BTCC package for a while, but to step up and be a part of the star attraction was amazing and obviously this was our first showing on home turf!"
“That first year was a tough one. We were the first to sign up to the new regulations and there were a few bits that needed changing throughout the season to make the cars really work. It was also the start of a huge learning curve that we are still on today, but Oulton in '11 was our best result that year"
“As I remember, we had mixed conditions, and Tony drove really well to pull off a respectable set of results and we needed a boost at that point in the year. It was a lot of hard work getting to that point!"
