Speedworks head Stateside

25-Oct-2017

Speedworks Motorsport are to contest the Creventic 24 hours of Texas (11-12th November) at the awesome Circuit of the Americas. Having won both the British GT4 championship in 2010 and the SP3 24H Series Endurance Championship in 2015, Speedworks are no strangers to this discipline of motorsport. Armed with the trusty Aston Martin GT4 Vantage and a team of four highly talented drivers, the team are heading to the States in good spirits.

Team principal Christian Dick is back behind the wheel after a few seasons on the sidelines. Having dipped his toe in the water at Spa earlier this year, he is raring to get stuck into COTA 24hr and make his Speedworks Motorsport return:

'It has been a few seasons since I last stepped into a race car competively and as much as I have enjoyed being on the pit wall during the 2017 season, it is time to get back behind the wheel. I am confident about the race, I have 3 fast drivers alongside me so we're in good shape. The Aston Martin GT4 has been in the Speedworks stable since late 2014 and I've never had the chance to race it up until now so I really can't wait! This isn't the first time me or the Speedworks team have raced in America so it's great to be heading back over the pond.'

Alongside Christian is British GT racer, William Phillips, who in 2017 contested the fiercely fought British GT4 championship in an Aston Martin GT4 Vantage, so he is no stranger to the car:

'COTA looks like a very technical track with fast and flowing corners where rhythm is key. I'm very much looking forward to driving on this F1 race circuit. It will be my first ever race in America and my debut 24 hour race as well. I am very excited to be working with Speedworks and their driver line up. I feel we have a lot of experience in the Team and we are up for the challenge that lies ahead. We have all experienced winning, so let's go racing and see what we can achieve together! '

Making his return to the Creventic paddock is 2015 SP3 24H Series Endurance Champion John Gilbert. Having been busy with business commitments John hasn't managed too many races this season but he has kept sharp with plenty of testing and time on the all new state of the art simulator recently installed at Speedworks HQ:

'I have been chomping at the bit to get back behind the wheel of the Aston! It has been a long time since I have raced that car and there is plenty of good memories. Winning the Championship in 2015 was a career highlight and I can't wait to give it my all in pursuit of another Creventic trophy. I have spent many an hour on the new simulator at Speedworks HQ learning the incredible COTA circuit and what a circuit it is! I am really excited to drive it in real life next month and with these 3 rapid drivers in the team it's going to be one hell of an experience!'

Finalising the driver line up is 2017 BTCC Independent drivers champion Tom Ingram. Heading into to Texas on the back of his most successful season in his career, Tom is brimming with confidence.

'This is going to be epic! Driving a racing car around COTA will be a dream come true. It's a proper circuit, the run into the first corner on the first lap will be quite something. I have driven alongside John before in a 24hr race at Spa a few seasons back where we ended up on the podium so if we can replicate that success in America, I will be buzzing. I have tested the Aston at Donington Park last month and it's an awesome machine. I really can't wait to just get going!'
