Speedworks Motorsport ended the first free practice session at Oulton Park in second position, just six tenths adrift of pace setter Jason Plato.
The BRDC superstar set his fastest time on his penultimate lap with an average speed of 92.84 miles per hour, setting personal best times in the first and second sectors.
As with previous years, the team carried out some testing prior to their home round and once again it looks to have paid off.
"The test that we did at Donington on Thursday seems to have helped a few things," said Ingram after the chequered flag. "I think we've got a bit of a handle on where we are with set up now so we should be in a fairly good position now going into qualifying."
