DICK ROBBED OF WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Christian Dick was denied the Ginetta G50 Winter Series crown after he was taken out of today's second race at Rockingham by Spencer McCarthy.

Dick was running a solid third at the halfway mark of the race when McCarthy lost it on the wet track under braking and hit the front of Dick's car. The contact put both out of the race and handed Tom Sharp a clear run to the title.

"We had made mega progress with that car and I'm absolutely certain we'd have got ahead of Tom," said Dick. "I'd got on the back of him that the start and then we had a safety car, and once the race had restarted I'd already tried to pass him three or four times.

"The car was handling brilliantly - you could put it wherever you wanted in the wet and it would respond. Spencer had been very brave on the brakes into that corner before and he just outbraked himself and took the front-left corner off my car.

"It's not like Spencer at all to do something like that. I've raced with him a lot in the past and it's just a mistake on his part. That's motor-racing. It's a shame because I'm certain we'd have won the title in that race."

Team-mate Mark Proctor finished a G50 career-best fourth, with former Formula Renault UK Champion Carl Breeze winning the race.

DICK A STEP CLOSER TO WINTER TITLE

Speedworks Motorspor team principal Christian Dick is well-placed to clinch the Ginetta G50 Winter Series title after a second-placed finish at Rockingham.

Dick finished just 3.435 seconds behind race winner Tom Sharp, giving him enough points to head into this afternoon's second race as Winter Series favourite.

"After the results we had at Snetterton last week it's more important to pick up a couple of solid podium finishes rather than going all-out for race wins," said Dick. "We've had a win and two seconds already and a solid run in the next race should be enough to take the title."

Should Dick win the title, it would be his first since winning the Mazda MX-5 Championship in 2004.

DICK CONSOLIDATES WINTER LEAD

Christian Dick extended his points lead in the Ginetta G50 Winter Series with second place in today's second race of the weeekend at Snetterton.

Dick lost out on victory to Tom Sharp by just over half-a-second, but despite not quite being able to make it a double victory he was more than happy with his weekend's work.

"It's job done," said Dick. "To win the Winter Series you need good, strong points in all four races, and you can't get much better than a first and a second. Now we have to go to Rockingham next weekend and hopefully do the same again."

Richard Sykes, who started from pole position for the first time in his racing career, just missed out on the podium with fourth, one place ahead of Speedworks Motorsport team-mate Mark Proctor.

DICK TAKES FIRST BLOOD

Speedworks Motorsport Team Principal Christian Dick claimed victory in the opening round of the Ginetta G50 Winter Series at Snetterton today.

Dick, starting from pole position, led from start to finish and was able to take it easy in the second half of the half-hour race to win by over ten seconds. For good measure, he also set fastest lap.

"We're here to win so this is the perfect start," said Dick. "It's good to get another win under my belt - it has been a while since I won as many as two races in a season and hopefully I can get another one tomorrow!"

Team-mate Richard Sykes slipped to fifth, although will have another shot at taking his first car racing victory in tomorrow's second race, which he will start from pole position.

DICK LEADS SPEEDWORKS FRONT ROW

Christian Dick and Richard Sykes locked out the front row for the first race of the Ginetta G50 Winter Series at Snetterton, which takes place this afternoon.

Dick, who made a late entry into the Winter Series, set a best lap over 0.3secs faster than Sykes, with the best non-Speedworks Motorsport car almost half-a-second down.

"It doesn't get much better than first and second on the grid, so with a bit of luck we can maintain that in this afternoon's race," said Dick. "Richard put in a very good lap to join me on the front row and I'm sure he will keep me honest in the race!"

Mark Proctor will start eighth.

Sykes set a best time of 1m14.197s in dry, but cool, conditions to eclipse team-mate Christian Dick's best time by a quarter-of-a-second.

"It's a good start for Richard," said Dick. "It shows we are in good shape for qualifying and hopefully there will be a strong Speedworks presence at the front of the grid."

Mark Proctor was seventh fastest in the session.

DICK IN LATER WINTER SERIES ENTRY

Speedworks Motorsport's Christian Dick will compete in the Ginetta G50 Winter Series, which kicks off at Snetterton today.

Dick, who finished third in the main G50 Championship this season with a victory at Silverstone, had planned to focus on his responsibilities as team principal, but opted to enter a third car for himself for the four-race series.

"I've really enjoyed racing in the G50 this season and this is a great chance to try and get a title under my belt," said Dick. "The standard in the series is high, so it's going to be tough and there will be some great racing."
