CARS LEAVE FOR AMERICA
Preparation is almost complete for the Sykes and Hughes G50s to leave for America on saturday. They will be loaded at Southampton docks having been upgraded with the 2009 spec wing as well as the endurance updates to enable them to compete in the Sebring endurance Challenge as well as the night race the same weekend.
Sebring International Raceway is a 3.7 mile, 17-turn circuit. It is the Oldest road course in North America, portions of which were originally a WWII B-17 training base. Steve McQueen, James Brolin, Gene Hackman, Paul Newman and Patrick Dempsey are among the many entertainers who have driven at Sebring.
And they run race meetings in style at Sebring, part of the race weekend will include a "downtown drive" in the race cars under police escort round old Sebring town, which, incidentally is where they used to scrutineer the cars for the main event there of the year, The 12 hours of Sebring which is 18/21st March.
The drivers are also taking part in a Nascar driving experience at the Richard Petty Racing School at Walt Disney World Speedway the wednesday prior to the event.
This will be the first of many international meetings and events that will be contested by Speedworks Motorsport over the coming year.
