MASTERS ARE GO AT DONINGTON PARK

The 2009 debut of the newly rebuilt Sunbeam Tiger by Speedworks Motorsport is nearly upon us. The 9th/10th May will see the Masters Classic at Donington Park where the Tiger will be racing in the Gentleman Drivers series, piloted by owner and Speedworks regular Neil Merry and team principal Christian Dick.

Despite the very public problems happening at Donington Park with regards to maintaining their MSA permit to allow the meeting to go ahead, the Masters Series and Donington Park have assured all competitors that the meeting is to go ahead as stated in the Masters bulletin;
"Following 2 weeks of negotiations, the FIA circuit inspectors have now approved the schedule of works to be carried out to the section of track between McLeans and Coppice corners, and this scheme has obtained the MSA’s agreement also. This process leads to a new circuit operating licence. The CEO and Board of Donington circuit have also confirmed directly to us, that the various works commencing now can be all completed in time for our race meeting."

Also that weekend is a fundraising event in aid of Help for Heroes, this is a new organisation formed to help those who have been wounded in Britains current conflicts. Neil Merry has donated a GT bike for the charity auction in support for this worthy cause.

SPEEDWORKS STORMS INTO TOP 3 AT THRUXTON

Last weekend saw Round 2 of the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup at Thruxton. Speedworks were running only two cars as Tony Hughes and Mark Proctor were unable to race due to work commitments. This left Team Principal Christian Dick and Speedworks regular Richard Sykes to go to work.

After a torrid Brands Hatch meeting, Christian was hoping to come to terms with the set up and handling of the car and compete at the front once again, this he did with an impressive 3rd in race 1, 4th in race 2, and 6th in race 3. "Our best result at Brands Hatch was 6th and at Thruxton it was our lowest result, so we've made a massive amount of progress and now we can comfortably race at the front." Said Christian, "We still have plenty of work to do, but we know we're headed the right way up the field!"

Richard Sykes, once again able to race his own car after the long trip back from the States, had an improved weekend. A good trio of results that saw Richard teetering on the edge of the top ten in 11th place in Race 1 & 2, but finally cracking the top ten in the final race of the weekend. A fantastic step forward in his newly liveried mysportzone.co.uk machine.

The Ginetta G50s are next out at Donington Park for the third round of the Championship on 16/17 May, where Speedworks will be fielding all 4 cars, with Tony Hughes making his 2009 debut!

SPEEDWORKS SHOWS PROMISE AT THRUXTON TEST

The pre race weekend test day for Thruxton was on Tuesday and Christian Dick and Richard Sykes - fresh from his British GT success - attended. Christian had a good day and finshed P3 in session 1 and P4 in session 2, with less than a tenth between him and the P1 driver. "This should stand us in good stead for a better race weekend than we had at Brands Hatch," said team principal Christian Dick, "the car feels great at the moment so we're looking forward to a good result at Thruxton." Last years meeting at Thruxton for the G50 saw mixed results for Christian in his G50, a podium and a none finish, he's looking for 3 strong finishes this time round!

The next Ginetta G50 Cup race is at Thruxton race circuit on 25/26 April.

SPEEDWORKS SUCCESS AT OULTON PARK

The final round of the British GT opener at Oulton Park saw Richard Sykes and Lawrence Tomlinson claim a well deserved 2nd place in the GT4 class for Speedworks Motorsport. The team had a fantastic weekend, being the quickest in several test sessions and leading the GT4 Class in the first race before being taken out by the lapped Beechdean Aston Martin. However, the star of the weekend had to be Richard Sykes who claimed the Sunoco Driver of the Weekend in recognition of his superb efforts behind the wheel of his Speedworks run GT4 Ginetta G50. Richard drove two fantastic races and is looking to take his success to Thruxton for the second round of the Ginetta G50 Cup.

SPEEDWORKS SHINES ON BRITISH GT4 DEBUT

Speedworks regular Richard Sykes and Ginetta 'supremo' Lawrence Tomlinson topped the tables at Oulton Park in an impressive debut run for the team. Richard Sykes pulled into the lead in race 1 from second on the grid to create an impressive 18 second gap to the 2nd placed man. Driver change and Lawrence Tomlinson continued the advantage until the GT4 Aston (as they were lapping the car) turned into him, sent him into the gravel and finshed the race for the team. Despite a disappointing result, a fantastic weekend so far and the team are looking to take a rightful win in Race 2 on Monday.

SLOW START FOR SPEEDWORKS

Last weekend saw the first round of the Ginetta G50 Cup at Brands Hatch. It was a slow start as the team struggled to find a good setup for the Kent track. However, they did come home with the Chairmans Cup for Mark Proctor and the Best Presented car for Christian Dicks newly painted machine! Richard Sykes was racing the race winning Moore car from last year as his G50 is still on the boat from the States!

The team will be at Thruxton next week for the official test prior to the next round there on 25/25 April, where we are looking to achieve better results.
