DONINGTON DRAMAS

Last weekend saw the 3rd round of the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup round at Donington Park. Speedworks was up to full speed running Richard Sykes, Tony Hughes, Christian Dick and Mark Proctor with his new paint job (see pic). After a promising test day on Thursday, Christian was running second quickest and Mark and Richard were well into the top ten, this was looking good for qualifying on saturday morning. Christian was in pole position until the very last lap where he ended up 3rd on the grid for race one.

As soon as the cars hit the grid for Race 1, the rain started, but only a small shower, enough to grease the track but not to change to wets, Christian slid of the track at Coppice to come back onto the track dead last, where he made his way impressively up to 5th place and was the second fastest man on track. Proctor and Sykes were battling further down the field with Mussi and Ritter when an off by Ritter caused a massive accident taking out all three other cars, Proctor had to retire as did Mussi, but Sykes managed to finish with a very sorry looking car. Tony Hughes bought his car home in one piece after a successful return to the Cup.

Race 2 again saw Christian the second quickest out on track and Mark Proctor collect the Chairmans Trophy. The final race of the weekend saw torrential rain hit Donington, the track was lethal, but all 4 cars managed to finish.

Speedworks is out next on home ground at Oulton Park for Round 4 next weekend - 30th/31st May.

TIGER SHOWS PROMISE IN FIRST OUTING

This weekend saw Neil Merry and Christian Dick competing in the Masters Classic at Donington, the first competitive outing for the Tiger this year. Qualifying for the Gentleman Drivers Endurance race left the Tiger in 23rd place on the grid after suffering brake problems. The race saw Christian driving the first stint, he soon made up places and was up to 17th when he lost all gears and had to coast the Tiger off the circuit. This was to be the end of the race. "The car was handling fantastically and we would have made up more places if we hadn't had the gearbox problems." Said Christian, "however, despite the braking issues we've had, we've come along way in getting the Tiger competitive."

KIRLEW ROBBED OF RESULT

Scot Kirlew was robbed of any chance of a result at Castle Combe over the bank holiday weekend, when on the 4th lap he was taken out by fellow competitor Carl Powell, this resulted in Scot being marooned in the middle of the track at the mercy of oncoming cars. "He just spun me round in the middle of the track where 3 other race cars hit me causing lots of damage to my car, that was my race done." said Scot after the first race. Then it was a fight against the clock to get his car ready for the second race later that afternoon, which they did, but a disappointing result followed as he finished in 14th.

You can catch Scots next race at Croft on the 16/17th May, where he'll be chasing that elusive first place!
