TROPHIES GALORE AT ROCKINGHAM FOR SPEEDWORKS

Last weekend saw a fantastic set of results for Speedworks Motorsport at Rockingham in the penultimate round of the G50 Cup. The team fielded 3 of its regular cars, Tony Hughes, Richard Sykes and Christian Dick in his newly painted now silver machine.

Qualifying saw Richard Sykes on the brink of the top ten in tenth place with Speedworks team principal Christian Dick in a lowly 8th, regular driver Tony Hughes qualifyied in 12th place. Race 1 on saturday afternoon saw Richard Sykes storm to a superb 8th place to win the Chairmans Cup and take the fastest lap in class. Christian Dick was struggling with a failing diff and finished in 7th place while Tony Hughes had a great battle to finish in 11th.

Sunday morning saw bright sunshine and two more races to go. The start of Race 2 was a rather torrid affair with a spinner at the second corner taking out 4 cars, one of which was the unfortunate Richard Sykes. The race settled down however and saw Christian Dick take his 6th podium of the year in a fantastic 3rd place and Tony Hughes having his career best finish in 6th place and taking his maiden podium to win the Chairmans Cup category and achieve fastest lap in the class. Race 2 saw another second corner collison which saw Tony Hughes take the unfortunate turn of collecting the spinning car. Richard Sykes however went on to take a superb 7th finish once again winning the Chairmans Cup. Christian Dick finiahed in 4th place.

Speedworks bought home 4 trophies, with 3 class wins and a 3rd overall, a superb result from all the drivers!

The next round of the G50 Cup is at Brands Hatch on the 4th/5th October.

CHAIRMANS CUP SUCCESS AT SILVERSTONE

Silverstone race weekend saw Speedworks fielding 3 cars on the strongest G50 grid so far this year. With 20 drivers competing the racing was the closest we've seen.

Speedworks regulars Richard Sykes and Tony Hughes were joined by Ron Johnson on his G50 debut. Qualifying saw Richard Sykes lead the Chairmans Cup class to start in 10th place, with Ron Johnson qualifying an impressive 15th place and the ever improving Tony Hughes in 17th.

Race 1 began in rather a torrid manner with Julien Draper spinning on the opening lap and the unfortunate Ron Johnson collecting him, this put Ron out of the race. However, once the race settled down, Tony Hughes had a fantastic battle to finish in 11th place and Richard Sykes had a superb race finishing in 8th place and winning the Chairmans Cup.

Race 2 had a calmer start and saw all the Speedworks drivers finish. Once again Tony had a great battle to finish in 14th place with Ron Johnson finishing just behind in 15th. Richard Sykes had an even better race once again winning the Chairmans Cup in 7th place.

Race 2 saw very tricky damp conditions and a brave tyre choice by the team saw Ron and Richard running on slicks, Tony Hughes however, stayed on wets, and also suffered engine problems so retired from the race early. Ron had another great race finishing in 14th place, where Richard had a real battle on his hands, having dropped to 14th with only 5 laps to go, a last minute spurt saw him gain 5 spots and finish in 9th place, he also got fastest lap in the Chairmans Cup class.

The next round of the G50 Cup is at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 19th-20th September.
