ALGARVE HISTORIC FESTIVAL

Last weekend saw the Sunbeam Tiger of Neil Merry travel out to the amazing circuit of Portimao in the Algarve. It competed in the Gentleman Drivers race. This being the first visit to the circuit for both drivers so the test session on the friday was all about circuit familiarisation! Qualifying saw them come in 35th place out of 40 cars, both drivers still learning the circuit! An early start on Sunday morning saw the hour and a half race start. Team principal Christian Dick started the race and within the first lap had overtaken 11 cars to come over the start finish line in 24th place. An exciting race ensued seeing him battle with a porsche and a healey moving up to 22nd place. Half way point and owner Neil Merry took over and kept position up until 20 minutes before the end of the race when the clutch gave way and he had to finish the race in second gear! However, he still bought the car home in an impressive 24th position!

Speedworks final race of the season is on the 4th/5th November at Daytona International Speedway, USA, where Tony Hughes will be sharing his G50 with Team Principal Christian Dick in the Rolex Endurance Challenge!
